Terms of Service

Welcome to Store Search (“the Service”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By accessing or using our website and services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

Store Search is an AI-powered grocery price comparison tool. It allows you to compare product prices across multiple retailers in different regions, view nearby store locations on a map, access live fuel prices, and estimate travel costs. Price data is found and aggregated using artificial intelligence from publicly available online sources and should be treated as estimates only.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years of age to create an account and use the Service. By using Store Search you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.

3. Accounts

To access certain features you must create an account using an email address and password or by signing in with Google. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, are used fraudulently, or are inactive for an extended period.

4. Free & Premium Plans

4.1 Free Tier

The free plan includes up to 5 AI-powered price searches per calendar month, the core comparison features, and (when you sign in) location-based tools: map, nearby stores, live fuel prices, and the travel cost calculator. The search counter resets at the beginning of each UTC month.

4.2 Premium Subscription

The Premium plan is available for $9.99 USD per month (R19.99 per month in South Africa), or annually at a 50% discount, and unlocks unlimited AI-powered price searches. All other features available on the free plan (including location tools when signed in) remain included. Payment is processed securely through Stripe (bank card) or PayPal.

4.3 Billing

  • Subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly cycle beginning on the date of your initial purchase.
  • You authorise us (via Stripe or PayPal) to charge the payment method on file each billing period until you cancel.
  • Subscriptions are purchased and managed on our website, not through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The Apps do not sell subscriptions or any other digital content, and neither Apple nor Google processes, bills, or refunds your subscription. Deleting an App does not cancel a subscription, and neither does deleting your account — cancel with the payment provider as described in section 4.4.
  • Price changes will be communicated with at least 30 days’ notice before they take effect.

4.4 Cancellation & Refunds

You may cancel your Premium subscription at any time. Upon cancellation, you retain access to Premium features until the end of the current billing period. We do not offer prorated refunds for partial months, except where required by applicable law.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
  • Attempt to scrape, harvest, or extract data from the Service by automated means (bots, crawlers, scripts) without our prior written consent.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service’s infrastructure, or impose an unreasonable load on our servers.
  • Circumvent search quotas, billing mechanisms, or other usage limits.
  • Impersonate another person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.

6. Intellectual Property

All content, trademarks, logos, UI design, and code comprising the Service are owned by Store Search or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works of any part of the Service without our express written permission.

Search results and price data displayed by the Service are found using AI and sourced from third parties. We do not claim ownership of the underlying product pricing set by retailers.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

Price data is found using AI and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Store Search does not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or timeliness of any pricing information, fuel prices, travel cost estimates, or store location data. Always verify prices directly with the retailer before making purchase decisions.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, STORE SEARCH AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE.

Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed the total amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or $10 USD, whichever is greater.

9. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with and relies upon third-party providers including, but not limited to:

  • Google / Firebase — authentication, database, and hosting.
  • Stripe — payment processing for card-based subscriptions.
  • PayPal — payment processing for PayPal-based subscriptions.
  • Google Gemini AI — AI-powered price search and data aggregation.
  • OpenStreetMap / Leaflet — mapping and store location display.
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel & Conversions API — analytics and conversion tracking.
  • Google Analytics — aggregate usage analytics.
  • Apple App Store — distribution of the iOS App.
  • Google Play — distribution of the Android App.
  • Expo — mobile application build and update delivery.

Your use of these third-party services is subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for any actions, policies, or failures of third-party service providers.

10. Privacy

10.1 Collection of personal and usage data

By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that we may collect, store, aggregate, and process information about you and your use of Store Search as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, bill for, analyse, and improve the Service. This includes, without limitation: identifiers such as email address and Firebase user ID; authentication-related data; usage data such as feature interactions and price searches (within any applicable quotas); device, browser, and technical diagnostics; and location-related inputs when you choose to use map, nearby-store, fuel-price, or travel-cost features. Processing may include analytics, fraud prevention, service messaging (including optional marketing where you have opted in), and compliance with legal obligations. Details, lawful bases where applicable, retention, and your rights are set out in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

11. Modifications to the Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any features thereof) at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where practicable, notify you via email or an in-app banner. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Store Search and its affiliates, officers, agents, and employees from any claim, demand, loss, damage, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from or relating to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another.

14. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to its conflict of laws provisions. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, the dispute shall be submitted to the jurisdiction of the courts of Johannesburg, South Africa.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

16. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Store Search regarding your use of the Service and supersede any prior or contemporaneous agreements.

17. Additional Terms for the Mobile Applications

This section applies when you download or use an App. Where it conflicts with another section of these Terms, this section governs for that App.

17.1 Licence

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on a device you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, in accordance with these Terms and the usage rules of the store you obtained it from. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, rent, resell, or create derivative works from the App except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by applicable law.

17.2 Store terms and updates

Your use of the App is also subject to the terms of the store you obtained it from (the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, or the Google Play Terms of Service). The App may download and install updates automatically, including over-the-air updates to its software, so that you receive fixes and improvements. You may turn automatic updates off in your device settings, but an out-of-date App may stop working correctly.

17.3 Device requirements and connectivity

The App requires a compatible device and an internet connection. Data charges from your mobile network are your responsibility. We do not warrant that the App will run on every device or operating system version.

17.4 Terms required by Apple

The following apply to the iOS App obtained from the Apple App Store, and are included because Apple requires them:

  • These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the App and its content.
  • Scope of licence. Your licence is limited to a non-transferable licence to use the App on any Apple-branded product that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
  • Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the App. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support.
  • Warranty. We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the App to you (the App is free to download, so that amount may be zero). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App.
  • Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product liability claims, any claim that the App fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.
  • Intellectual property claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of any third-party claim that the App or your use of it infringes that third party’s intellectual property rights.
  • Legal compliance. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance of these Terms Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

17.5 Terms required by Google

The Android App is distributed through Google Play. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the App. Your use of Google Play is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service, and any claim relating to the App is between you and us.
